What has 40 horses, 2 boats and a 1934 Wurlitzer organ?
If you said the Roseneath Carousel, you’d be right…but did you know it’s about to get its own stamp?
Since 1932 the Carousel in Roseneath has been a phenomenal attraction bringing folks from around Northumberland County and beyond to ride these historic horses.
This Thursday, the Carousel will be celebrated by Canada Post as part of a collection of stamps call Vintage Carousels.
According to Barb Foreman, Secretary-Treasurer of the Roseneath Agricultural Society, the stamp has been in the works for quite a few years.
The Roseneath Carousel is one of the oldest operating Carousel’s in North America and has been in regular operation since it’s 400-thousand dollar restoration was completed back in 1993.
But according to Foreman, it’s history in Canada dates back to 1932.
Barb told us it’s been on the Roseneath Fairgrounds ever since being brought to Roseneath in seven wheelbarrow loads of parts and pieces.
Foreman told us it’s been a labour of love for the volunteers who began its massive restoration in 1986.
The carousel operates every Sunday from 1 to 3 pm and donations for its upkeep are always gratefully accepted.
