The first baby of the year in Northumberland was a girl.
Born to Angela and Bruno Gelao of Port Hope, Northumberland Hills Hospital reports the baby —named Hazel Mae—weighed 6 pounds and 11.2 ounces at birth.
Angela is actually a Registered Nurse by training and completed her nurse training through Trent University at the hospital several years ago.
Hazel went home from with a gift basket prepared and donated by the staff and volunteers of the hospital. Maternal/Child Care nurses hand pick items they felt new parents would appreciate and, with support from NHH, the NHH Foundation and the NHH Auxiliary, a personalized gift basket was assembled.
The Maternal/Child Care team at NHH welcomed 587 births at the hospital in the last fiscal year, thanks to a strong partnership with local obstetrician-gynecologists, family physicians, anesthesiologists, and area midwifery groups.
