The Port Hope Youth Centre Drop-In has been running for years, but like many in-person programs, it suffered during the pandemic.
The current focus is on re-establishing programs and engagement with youth in the community.
Youth Drop-In Spaces provide 13 to 19-year-olds a free, safe space to hang out, build new friendships, develop self-confidence and learn something new.
Recreation Program Coordinator Raven McDonald told us they have air hockey, foosball and even an Xbox.
McDonald told us it’s a place for youth 13 to 19 to get together.
According to Raven, access to the Drop-In space is free, but even their workshops and activities are really inexpensive.
New this year is a Drop-In Program for grades 7 to 12 on Thursdays at the Port Hope High School.
The High School program is only a few weeks old and Raven told us more and more kids are coming out each week and they’ve got plans to make the program even better based on feedback from participants.
So bring your friends and join in the fun, Monday to Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Town Park Recreation Centre and Thursday’s from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Port Hope High School.
