Saturday, May 6th saw racing fans pack the stands for the 56th season opener at the local Brighton Speedway.
Following days of rain, Saturday’s sunny skies allowed 78 cars to dial in for the Deerhaven Powersports NLMA Lid Lifter, Canadian Modified, Thunder Stock, Mini Stock and Comp 4 events.
“We started at 6:00 pm and the final checker flag was at 10:00 pm,” said Angela Rinaldi – co-owner of the Brighton Speedway. “Mark and I were so pleased to see the stands full, fans were bundled up but loving the races.”
Attendees were encouraged to bring donations for Brighton’s Food Bank, the Brighton Fare Share and they did not disappoint.
“Race fans are always so generous, the trailer is jam-packed with food donations that we will be dropping off this week,” added Rinaldi.
This year’s opening night was special.
Charlie Sandercock, #57 raced to his 150th career victory. The Trenton native has been competing for 23 seasons at the Brighton Speedway.
The Rinaldi’s also had their two sons competing in races this year too.
“Every night is fantastic at the Speedway,” said Rinaldi. “With Charlie’s milestone win and my boys racing it was extra special opening night.”
