The date was Friday the 13th, 1973 when a tornado ripped through downtown Brighton, damaging the Town Hall, several buildings and destroying most of the tree canopy.
Tornado Task Force Committee member Lloyd Hutchison told us the tornado touched down around 7 pm in the evening but they decided it would be more appropriate to sound the siren today at noon.
Lloyd said it was an amazing display of the power of Mother Nature.
Hutchison told us he was 16 years old when the Tornado passed through downtown.
Fire Chief Gene Thompson will be joined by retired Fire Chief Harry Tackleberry as well as Lloyd Hutchison who is also a former Fire Chief to sound the siren.
Tonight’s feature for Movies in the Park will be “Into the Storm” to mark the day the Tornado touched down fifty years ago.
