Tributes are pouring in following the death of legendary singer Tony Bennett, who passed away in New York Friday morning.
Bennett’s publicist confirmed his passing at the age of 96 but did not list a specific cause of death. Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s
disease in 2016.
Bennett recorded 60 studio albums and many live albums and compilations. Seven reached Top 10 on the Billboard. Bennett won 19 Grammy Awards during his more than 7 seven-decade career.
Bennett’s musical style was universal in appeal and transcended generations. In a 1965 Life magazine article, entertainment legend Frank Sinatra said “For my money, Tony Bennett is the best in the business.”
In 2014 at 88 years of age, Bennett teamed with singing star Lady Gaga to record an album of duets, “Cheek to Cheek.” In addition to charting at No. 1 the album won a Grammy for best traditional pop vocal album.
