The City of Quinte West has unveiled its latest outdoor public art exhibition. The ‘Quinte West Mosaic,’ is the newest part of the city’s Art on the Trent public art initiative.
‘Quinte West Mosaic’ features 16 large photos of mosaic tiles, each painted earlier in the year by both amateur and experienced members of the Quinte West community. This artistic display commemorates the city’s 25th anniversary and showcases the imagery, history, and stories that reflect Quinte West’s vibrant and growing community. These tiles on display were chosen from a pool of over 300 tiles created by community members during Quinte West’s Multiculturalism Day celebrations.
In 2022, the city secured grant funding to acquire eight outdoor art frame structures. These structures became the foundation for the ‘Art on the Trent’ public art program, which aimed to enhance the city’s public spaces. The frames were strategically placed in RiverFront Square, Centennial Park, and Frankford Tourist Park to serve as platforms for community art exhibitions, engaging both residents and visitors in Quinte West’s outdoor areas.
Linda Lisle, Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, expressed the city’s satisfaction with the ‘Quinte West Mosaic’ exhibition, stating, “The City is pleased to feature the Quinte West Mosaic as part of the Art on the Trent public art program until March 2024. Public art adds vibrancy to our public spaces, and we are delighted to use this program to showcase the creative expressions and community spirit that were celebrated during the City’s 25th anniversary.”
The City will mark the end of its 25th anniversary year on November 15, with the unveiling of a Quinte West 25th anniversary mosaic mural composed of 300+ community-painted tiles at City Hall.
