Get ready to hit the streets in support of the LGBTQIA2S+ community!
YMCA Northumberland is thrilled to announce the return of the Rainbow Run on Sunday, June 2, 2024, starting at 9:30 a.m. from Cobourg Yacht Club. Choose between a 2.5-km or 5-km walk or run along the waterfront and downtown.
“We want to be a part of the solution and recognized as allies to the LGBTQIA2S+ community,” said Eunice Kirkpatrick, CEO of YMCA Northumberland. “As we prepare for our second Rainbow Run, held in celebration of Pride Month, we are excited to welcome everyone back for another memorable and inclusive event. Join us as we embrace diversity, promote wellness, and create lasting memories while also supporting our charitable efforts.”
Adult Program Coordinator Eric Mejorado tells us they’re hoping to build on last year’s success.
All proceeds will support YMCA Northumberland’s Strong Communities Campaign which provides access to wellness programs and services in our community. This includes initiatives like programs for new mothers, mental health support for youth, recreational activities, digital literacy programs for seniors, summer camps for kids, and fitness memberships for people of all ages.
Mejorado says he’s thrilled by the changes that have taken place in the community over the last decade.
Registration is $15/person online or on-site, with kids under 12 free. Bring your strollers and pets, wear your rainbow gear, and grab a Rainbow Run t-shirt for $20. Raise $50 or more for a free t-shirt (limited supply), and the first 300 finishers get a medal.
According to Mejorado, diversity and inclusion have become part of the Y’s DNA.
The run is once again partially funded by ParticipACTION, with support from local sponsors Lakeland Multi-trade, Vandermeer Toyota, SMM Law Professional Corporation and Linmac Inc.
Join the community for a colorful event where every step counts and every colour matters.
