It’s been a busy month so far for Northumberland OPP who’ve made seven arrests recently, including four related to impaired driving.
Over the weekend, three of those arrests were made.
According to OPP, on Saturday, June 15, at about 1:15 p.m., police received a traffic complaint about a passenger vehicle unable to maintain the lane travelling eastbound on Hwy. 401 in the Clarington area.
OPP said they conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 401 in Alnwick/Haldimand. Following an investigation, police allege the driver provided identity details of another person.
As a result of an investigation, police said a 40-year-old Oshawa resident was arrested and charged with personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice, and driving while under suspension.
In a separate incident about an hour earlier, OPP said they were on general patrol when they located and observed a driver wanted by police.
Following a traffic stop, police said the individual was arrested. As a result, police said a 36-year-old Quinte West resident was charged with two counts of operation while prohibited.
During the early morning hours Saturday – at about 3:25 a.m. – police said they received a report of a single-vehicle collision where the complainant advised there was a vehicle on their front lawn at an address on Godolphon Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
The driver had allegedly left the vehicle on foot – police said they located the individual who had sustained minor injuries nearby.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested for impaired operation and transported to a local detachment for further testing, reported OPP.
Police said a 33-year-old Campbellford resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), drive motor vehicle – no licence, fail to remain, fail to report accident, and drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit.
Earlier this month, on June 7, at about 9:30 p.m., OPP said they responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on County Road 45 in Alnwick/Haldimand.
Fire and paramedics also responded to the call. Officers said when they arrived, they found a vehicle in the ditch.
The driver was still in the vehicle and advised that they were not injured – after speaking with the driver, police arrested the individual for impaired operation, said OPP.
As a result of an investigation, police said a 47-year-old Kingston resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
On June 2, at about 10:25 p.m., officers said they were dealing with an unrelated traffic stop on County Road 25 in Cramahe when another motorist stopped and spoke to police, advising a driver of a nearby vehicle may be impaired.
OPP said they located the described vehicle at an address on County Road 25 and after speaking with the driver, police made an approved screening device (ASD) demand. The driver was then arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing, reported police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 37-year-old North York resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court.
In another separate incident back on June 1, shortly before 11 a.m., police said they stopped a vehicle on Simpson Street in Campbellford and started an impaired driving investigation.
The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Oshawa resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
On June 1, at about 9:30 p.m., OPP also said they responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Riverview Drive in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The emergency response team was also dispatched to assist.
The subject of the complaint was located nearby and arrested by police, reported OPP.
As a result of an investigation, police said a 35-year-old man from the Municipality of Trent Hills was charged with assault, mischief – interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property – over $5,000, and uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.
None of the charges in any of these separate incidents have been proven in court.
In the incidents where the accused were arrested for impaired operation, they also had their licences suspended for 90 days and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.
Police are continuing to remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Police also continue to ask citizens who observe a suspected impaired driver to call 911 or contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
