
The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, in a press release on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, issued a firm statement reiterating its Zero Tolerance Policy against the harassment, bullying, and intimidation of township staff.
The statement follows recent incidents of threatening and defamatory behaviour directed at employees.
According to the release, the township’s policy aligns with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act, ensuring a safe and respectful work environment.
“I am proud of our staff,” says Mayor John Logal. “The integrity and professionalism they exhibit while performing their duties, organizing events for our families, keeping our community clean and safe, and ensuring that we are operating in an efficient, transparent, and legislatively compliant manner makes me proud to call Alnwick/Haldimand home.The uttering of threats or abusive and defamatory comments towards staff will not be tolerated by this organization.”
In the document, Dave Dawson, CAO and Fire Chief says “Our Township staff are committed to superior customer service and the delivery of programs that meet the needs of our residents. Everyone, however, has a right to a safe work environment, free of harassment, intimidation, and bullying. Threats, harassing, and intimidating behaviour made against Township staff will not be tolerated. I support my staff and stand behind their professionalism and integrity. We will not hesitate to pursue legal or criminal charges against anyone who thinks this type of behaviour is acceptable.”
The township says they remains dedicated to fostering a supportive and respectful atmosphere for all employees and will take decisive action to address any violations of this policy. Residents are urged to treat staff with the respect and professionalism they deserve.
