The County says they’ve launched the rehabilitation of the Baltimore Creek retaining wall, located along County Road 45, just north of County Road 15 in Baltimore.
This essential infrastructure project is designed to reinforce the gabion basket retaining wall, which is critical for protecting the embankment and preventing downstream erosion along Baltimore Creek.
The aging wall has deteriorated over time, necessitating significant repair and reinforcement. The project will also include replacing mature trees and shrubs to naturalize the area, ensuring both structural stability and environmental sustainability. Initial site preparations have begun, with crews clearing trees and brush and constructing an access road between the creek and the wall.
“The rehabilitation of the Baltimore Creek retaining wall is a crucial investment in our infrastructure,” stated Denise Marshall, Director of Public Works for Northumberland County. “This project not only ensures the safety and stability of County Road 45 but also helps preserve the natural environment along the Baltimore Creek. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete these essential repairs.”
Construction will start in mid-August and is expected to continue until late September. During this period, County Road 45 will be reduced to a single lane between Limekiln Trail and County Road 15, with temporary traffic signals managing the flow of vehicles. Drivers should anticipate delays and plan their routes accordingly.
