Belleville police say five people have been displaced as a result of a fire, and they’ve made an arrest related to arson.
Around 2 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, the Belleville Police Service said police were called to assist firefighters with traffic control after neighbours spotted the blaze at a house on Lingham Street.
Victim Services and Red Cross also responded to help with accommodations and support for five people displaced by the fire, noted police.
According to the service, shortly after arriving on scene, officers arrested a 33-year-old Belleville man on arson charges.
An investigation into the incident is continuing, involving members of the criminal investigations division, the Belleville fire prevention division of the fire department and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal, said police.
