Emergency crews are working to get traffic moving on Hwy. 401 in Brighton after two crashes this morning and a tractor-trailer fire earlier.
In an update just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, an OPP spokesperson said one westbound lane was opening. The westbound gate, which was previously closed, was also set to be opening soon.
Eastbound lanes had also reopened.
However, congestion remained at this time and in town.
Earlier Friday morning, crews had all westbound lanes closed between exit 509 and County Road 30 and exit 497 due to a tractor-trailer fire. There’s been no word yet on possible injuries following the vehicle fire.
Following this, initial reports indicate there was a collision eastbound involving a passenger vehicle and transport – the passenger vehicle ended up in a ditch.
Four occupants were sent to hospital as a precaution – the transport driver was uninjured, said OPP.
A second collision in the westbound lanes involving a passenger vehicle and three tractor trailers sent the driver of the passenger vehicle to hospital with minor injuries reported. All three transport drivers were uninjured, said OPP.
We’ll update this story when we have more information.
