
Since 1957, Thanksgiving Day in Canada has been observed on the second Monday of October. The holiday offers an opportunity for people to express gratitude for the year’s good harvest and other blessings. As a federal statutory holiday, government offices, services, Beer Stores, and LCBO locations will be closed.
While most grocery stores remain open, many malls and large retailers will close for the day.
Garbage collection in Northumberland County will shift by one day due to the holiday.
It’s recommended to contact stores ahead of time to confirm their hours, as those may vary during the holiday.
LIQUOR STORES
The LCBO will be closed on Monday, though you may find satellite locations open.
The Beer Store in Cobourg will be closed on Monday. Port Hope and Brighton locations will also be closed.
PHARMACY
Both the Cobourg Shoppers and the Port Hope Shoppers Simply Pharmacy will be open from 8 am to 10 pm.
Brighton Rexall will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
COBOURG
In The Town of Cobourg, all municipal buildings will be closed on Monday, including Public Works Building 7, the Cobourg Public Library, the Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, and Victoria Hall.
The Cobourg Community Centre will be open on Monday from 4 to 10 p.m. for the Cobourg Cougars game at 7 p.m.
Cobourg Transit will also not be operational on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Regular business and transit hours will resume on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
PORT HOPE
In Port Hope, municipal administrative buildings, the Hope Transfer Station, Transit Services, the Town Park Recreation Centre, and the Public Library branches will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
The Jack Burger Sports Complex will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for adult and public swimming.
All municipal services will resume at their usual business hours on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
BRIGHTON
Municipal offices will be closed on Monday for the holiday and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday.
