A multi-agency probe into a deadly blaze that claimed the life of a 45-year-old woman at an east-end Belleville home earlier this summer has concluded, with the cause attributed to a candle flame, say investigators.
In a November update, the Belleville Police Service confirmed their joint investigation with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office into the cause of the July fire had wrapped, saying “no foul play is suspected.”
Emergency crews responded to reports of the early-morning blaze back on July 20, 2024, at a detached residence on Herchimer Avenue, where Belleville resident Adrienne Dracup was found dead inside, police later confirmed.
“The cause of the fire was determined by OFM to be from an open candle flame,” reported investigators, in their latest update.
As previously reported, members of the Belleville Police Service’s criminal investigative division and forensic identification unit, with help from the OFM, confirmed the launch of a multi-agency investigation on July 24, 2024.
The Belleville Police Service is thanking members of the Belleville Fire Department’s fire prevention investigative team and the OFM for their help in the investigation.
No other details were released by police.
