Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) in Cobourg celebrated the arrival of its first baby of 2025 on New Year’s Day.
Samantha and Dave Parks of Bowmanville welcomed their son, Kane, at 7:40 p.m. on January 1. Weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces (3845 grams), Kane is the couple’s first child.
“We’re so excited and grateful to be Kane’s parents,” said Samantha. “Our midwife Paige made us feel comfortable throughout the entire birthing process, especially as first-time parents.”
Dave echoed her gratitude: “Everyone has gone above and beyond to make this experience so special. We’ll never forget the care and kindness shown to our family.”
As per tradition, Kane received a personalized gift basket from NHH staff and volunteers. The Maternal/Child Care team hand-picked items for new parents with support from the hospital’s Foundation and Auxiliary.
The Maternal/Child Care unit at NHH welcomed 532 births last year. Designed for the unique needs of mothers and newborns, it features six private labour and delivery suites, a Caesarean-section operating room, and advanced monitoring equipment.
