An investigation is continuing into a serious crash that briefly shut down westbound Hwy. 401 in Port Hope near Toronto Road Thursday morning.
Just after noon Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, Northumberland OPP confirmed two of the three westbound lanes had reopened and the right lane was anticipated to open shortly after a tow removed a vehicle that “left the roadway” and rolled into a wooded area earlier in the morning.
In their initial report, OPP stated crews anticipated the highway to remain closed for some time. In an update, an OPP spokesperson said delays were not as long as anticipated.
“We obviously appreciate people’s patience as we conduct our investigation,” added the spokesperson.
The crash involved a single passenger vehicle, with a sole occupant. The woman was airlifted to a Toronto hospital earlier Thursday around noon.
In an update Friday, Jan. 10, police said their investigation continues and no further information could be released at that time.
EMS and fire also responded to the crash Thursday.
