A Hamilton Township woman has been charged with impaired driving after police allege she registered more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
The incident began early Monday, Jan. 20, when Northumberland OPP said they responded to a single-vehicle collision on Dale Road, east of County Road 45. A grey pick-up truck had veered into the south ditch and hit a tree, causing minor injuries to the driver, reported OPP.
While officers investigated the crash, a second vehicle arrived. The second driver claimed to know the pick-up’s operator, said police.
Officers said they suspected alcohol consumption by the second driver and conducted a roadside screening test, which resulted in an alleged fail, said police. The individual was taken into custody and brought to a nearby police station for further testing, reported OPP.
Police said the driver, a 35-year old from the Township of Hamilton, was charged with impaired operation and operating with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in March.
Police issued a 90-day licence suspension and impounded the vehicle for seven days.
