Multiple power outages are being reported across Northumberland and Quinte Monday.
Just after noon Monday, there were outages being reported in the Cankerville and Spring Valley areas, impacting more than 290 Hydro One customers, as well as a smaller outage near Presqu’ile in Brighton.
Additional outages were showing stretching from Purdy’s Corners to beyond Gore’s Landing, as well as near Castleton.
In Quinte West, a large outage is being reported affecting more than 580 costumers near the National Air Force Museum, as well as smaller outages in the Sidney, Weeks Avenue, and Prospect Hill areas.
Most outages seem to be showing restoration times this afternoon.
With the area remaining under a wind warning, Hydro One has been urging customers to prepare for potential outages as high winds are forecasted to continue into the evening.
Environment Canada in its wind warning states southwesterly winds gusting 90 to 100 km/h are anticipated into this evening. Winds are supposed to intensify through the day and weaken overnight.
What’s more, a strong cold front is moving through the region tonight, which may be associated with bursts of heavy and blowing snow resulting in significantly reduced visibility, along with a sharp temperature drop, say officials.
Damage to buildings – such as roof shingles and windows – may occur, reads Environment Canada’s alert. In addition to power outages, the high winds may also lead to fallen tree branches.
Motorists are being urged to adjust their driving with changing road conditions due to the high winds.
