On January 25, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Northumberland OPP say officers in Brighton responded to a suspicious vehicle report near Warkworth Institution.
Police reportedly located the vehicle on County Road 30 and stopped it. Upon approaching, they detected the smell of cannabis coming from the car. A search of the vehicle revealed a drone, several cellphones, $1000 in Canadian currency, cannabis, and a small quantity of unknown drugs.
An 18-year-old man from Quebec was arrested and charged with mischief, obstructing the use of property, and several cannabis-related offences, including possession and driving with cannabis readily available. Two 17-year-old males, also from Montreal, were charged with similar cannabis-related offences.
Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names of the young persons involved cannot be disclosed. All the accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
Police continue to investigate the case, including the identification of the unknown drugs found during the search.
