Public health has confirmed new measles exposures in Hastings and Prince Edward counties, including in Trenton, Picton and Bloomfield.
The South East Health Unit issued a public notice Friday, April 11, 2025, advising the community of additional measles exposures, saying people who were present at these locations during these timeframes and are immunocompromised (regardless of age immunity); born after 1970 and not up-to-date with vaccinations; an infant less than 12 months; pregnant; and/or a health-care provider or childcare/education worker and don’t have two doses of measles vaccines or evidence of immunity, should call public health at 613-966-5500 ext. 349 from Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“This includes those who were only present briefly, as measles is highly contagious,” reads the health unit’s release.
Public health also indicated three specific exposure locations, with dates and times as follows:
- Foodland – 23 George Wright Blvd., Picton – on April 4 from 11 a.m. to 1:20 p.m.
- Gillingham Brewing Company – 1316 Wilson Rd., Bloomfield – on April 4 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Red’s Diner – 2223 Hamilton Rd., Trenton – on April 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Public health continues to urge residents to learn more about measles. A list of all known measles exposure locations and timelines, along with vaccination guidance, is accessible on the health unit’s website.
The health unit said it issues measles exposure notices when staff are unable to contact all individuals who may have been exposed at specific locations and timeframes.
Officials add that measles is a reportable disease of public health significance that can result in complications such as diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. Rarely, measles can cause brain infections and death, reiterated staff.
