Speed enforcement by camera will be a reality in Brighton this summer in the school zone on Elizabeth Street, says the municipality.
The camera will be operational as of April 15 but for the first 90 days motorists will not be charged with an infraction, reads a recent release.
Right now, “municipal speed camera coming soon” signs are still posted in the area. On July 14th a “camera in use” sign will be installed.
The licence plate of vehicles that are speeding will be photographed. A ticket will be sent by mail to the registered owner of the vehicle. Demerit points will not be applied.
The municipality said the goal of automated speed enforcement is increased public safety in Brighton.
The municipality originally started eyeing speed cameras and rollout last year.
