Northumberland County is set to celebrate the life-saving work of its paramedics during Paramedic Services Week from May 18 to 25, 2025.
This year’s theme, We Help, Everyone, recognizes the dedication of paramedics to serve all community members with care, compassion, and professionalism. County Warden Brian Ostrander officially proclaimed the week during April’s council meeting, highlighting the contributions of 140 paramedics and superintendents working across six local paramedic bases and through the Community Paramedicine Program.
“Paramedics dedicate their lives to public service,” Ostrander said. “Their skills often make the difference between life and death.”
Paramedics Chief Susan Brown announced several events to mark the week, including a demonstration of a hands-free CPR device during County Council’s meeting.
A public Paramedics, Friends and Family Barbecue will be held May 22 at the Elgin Street base, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Children can visit the Teddy Bear First Response Team, meet Terry the Traumasaurus and Ivy the therapy dog, and enjoy games and face painting with the EarlyON Years staff.
On May 24, Northumberland Paramedics will also be at the Cobourg Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Teddy Bear Assessment Clinic open and more family activities on offer.
Brown encourages all residents to take time this week to show their appreciation and thank those who help when we need it most.
