Belleville police are calling on the public for help after a report about three young males acting suspiciously allegedly led to the seizure of a loaded pistol and the individuals then fled on foot.
According to the Belleville Police Service, police responded to a report of three young males acting suspicious behind a convenience store in the city’s west hill area on May 9 around 3:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, an officer located the individuals and started questioning them about their activities, reported the service.
“During the interaction, one of the males was observed to have an object concealed in the front of his pants underneath his sweater,” reads a release from the service issued on Monday, May 12, 2025. “When the officer conducted a pat-down for officer safety, he felt a hard object consistent with the shape of a handgun.
Police said they grabbed the weapon and confirmed it was a loaded 9mm pistol.
At that time, police said all three males fled the scene on foot in different directions. An extensive search of the surrounding area followed with help from additional officers; however, the suspects weren’t located, reported police.
Police said their investigation is ongoing and they’re working to identify the individuals involved, including through review of surveillance footage from nearby cameras and throughout the city.
