YMCA Northumberland is once again inviting the community to lace up and step out in celebration of Pride Month with the return of its annual Rainbow Run.
Taking place Sunday, June 1, 2025, along the Cobourg waterfront and downtown area, the inclusive 2.5 km and 5 km walk/run begins at 9:30 a.m., with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. Now in its third year, the Rainbow Run is both a colourful kickoff to Pride Month and a celebration of diversity, equity, and community spirit.
The Y’s Manager, Philanthropy Zoey Read tells us more.
“At YMCA Northumberland, we believe in building a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and celebrated for who they are,” said Eunice Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of YMCA Northumberland. “The Rainbow Run is a powerful reminder that when we come together-each bringing our own colour, energy, and spirit-we can create something truly extraordinary.”
Read tells us participants are encouraged to dress for the day.
Participants are encouraged to dress in vibrant, multi-coloured clothing to reflect the event’s message of love, inclusion and support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Last year’s run attracted nearly 200 people and raised over $8,000 for the YMCA’s Strong Communities Campaign, which helps ensure that programs remain accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all.
Read says she hopes participants and even pets will don their brightest outfits for the run.
Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for youth aged 5-12, and free for children under 4 and their furry friends. The first 250 finishers will receive a medal. Those raising over $75 will receive a free pair of Rainbow Run socks, which are also available for purchase.
