Belleville police say they’ve laid charges after an alleged unprovoked assault.
On May 12, at about 5:35 p.m., police said a man was walking in the Riverfront Trail area on Front Street, when he was approached by another man who allegedly proceeded to punch the victim in the head.
“The two parties do know each other, and the assault was unprovoked,” said police, in a subsequent update.
The victim reportedly when to a nearby business for help and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to address minor physical injuries.
Police said after obtaining a detailed description of the suspect and a subsequent search, the accused was found but allegedly tried to flee from police.
After a short foot pursuit, police said a 25-year-old man with no fixed address was arrested and charged with assault and breach of probation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
