McHappy Day served up another helping of generosity in Northumberland County, with more than $29,000 raised at local McDonald’s® restaurants for children’s charities.
Held on May 8 at McDonald’s locations in Cobourg and Port Hope, the annual event raised funds for Five Counties Children’s Centre and Ronald McDonald House Charities®.
Five Counties CEO Scott Pepin says everyone played a part in making the day such a success.
Approximately $21,750 will go to Five Counties, helping kids in Northumberland County access high-demand therapies such as speech and occupational therapy. The remaining $7,250 will support families staying at Ronald McDonald Houses while their children receive hospital treatment.
Lisa Wilson, owner and operator of the McDonald’s restaurants in Cobourg and Port Hope, says McHappy Day is a highlight every year.
“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support shown to us on McHappy Day by our community,” Wilson said in a release. “Residents in Northumberland County are very generous, and this shines through with their continued support for two important charities.”
Pepin says it was a show of support for local families and had a special message for the McDonald’s team.
Community support also came from members of local police and fire departments, high school students, Trinity College School, the Cobourg Lions Club, and local volunteers.
McHappy Day is a national event where McDonald’s restaurants donate a portion of proceeds and accept donations in support of children’s charities. The Northumberland event has now delivered back-to-back fundraising wins in 2024 and 2025.
