About a decade ago, Colin Crews took over Sills Argo.
Today, the owner, technician and manager – who was born and raised in the area and went to school in Brighton – says he and his family remain deeply tied to the community.
A life-long farmer as well, Crews took over the business from Argo pioneers Ken and Don Sills in early 2015.
Over the years, the company has grown and branched out and continues to support and employ local residents while operating as a home-based business on the family farm at 1074 County Rd. 40 (Wooler Road) in Trenton.
“Everyone who works in our business, we’re all technicians to a certain degree …” explains Crews, who feels this is what ultimately gives the business/dealership an edge and makes it “flow easy.”
“People come in to talk to us about their problem with their chainsaw or their lawnmower or their Argo or ATV (and) we’re all users of the product, we’re all technicians, so that helps.”
More than ever, Crews says supporting local should remain top-of-mind amid tariff-related concerns south of the border in order to protect jobs and the economic spinoffs that small businesses create in the community.
Sometimes, he says, it may even be a bit more work to make a trip to an area store versus ordering online; however, there are benefits for people short- and-long-term when it comes to making that effort.
