Northumberland OPP is thanking the public for its help in keeping local roads safe after a vehicle reportedly collided with a guardrail and kept on trucking along Hwy. 401 in Brighton.
The alleged incident happened on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, said police.
Just after 1 p.m., police said they responded to a report of a vehicle on eastbound on Hwy. 401 in Brighton that had collided with a guardrail and was continuing along the highway with “significant damage.”
Thanks to public reports, officers said they were able to locate the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 32-year-old Colborne man was charged with careless driving, operating an unsafe vehicle, failing to report a collision, failing to remain, and driving with an open container of liquor.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
“We appreciate the community’s help in keeping our roads safe,” said police, who continue to ask residents if they witness a crash or see unsafe driving to report it.
