
Investigators are calling on the public for help with a death investigation dating back to last year after a 49-year-old Quinte West man was found dead at a Westmount Court residence.
Quinte West OPP said the man was found deceased on Aug. 15, 2024, at the residence at about 10 a.m. Officers, alongside members of the crime unit and forensic identification services, the fire department and paramedics, responded to the call at the Westmount Court residence.
While the investigation is ongoing, police have laid some charges in their probe.
In their latest update, police said after a lengthy investigation, on May 22, 2025, Shannon Brooks, 36, of Quinte West, was arrested with help from the Belleville Police Service’s emergency response unit.
Police said the accused was charged with indignity to a dead body, theft of a credit card, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and possession of a credit card.
In relation to separate investigations, police said the accused was also charged with operation while prohibited, and three counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
OPP said the investigation into the death continues under the direction of OPP’s criminal investigation branch, with help from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police are also reminding citizens that should they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers is an option by calling 1-800-222-8477 or submitting a tip online. People who submit tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to testify in court and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
