A $55,900 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grant is making a difference for the Brighton Dragon Boat Club.
The two-year grant received in 2024 has helped replace boats and boost training/learning opportunities for coaches and steerspersons with monies funneling through the Resilient Communities Fund stream.
Over the weekend, Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini swung by the club as officials gathered to officially celebrate the impact of the grant.
“I’m proud to support the Brighton Dragon Boat Club – a community-driven organization that promotes active living, teamwork, and a love for the outdoors,” said Piccini. “This funding will help them continue their work – updating equipment, expanding training, and making sure more people have the chance to get involved.”
The club was originally founded in 2007 – the boats that were replaced were acquired at this time. The grant also helped with the purchase of essential gear, such as paddles, PFDs, et cetera.
“The impact and importance of this grant cannot be overstated,” said Helen Conlon, past-president. “With membership demand nearly doubling, these initiatives will protect and strengthen the future of our club as a vital community resource.”
The $55,900 was part of OTF’s $105 million invested into more than 730 projects and multi-sector partnerships last year.
