Dancers from across Ontario took the stage at the Cobourg Community Centre over the weekend (May 24-25), bringing high energy and dazzling routines to the Dance Attack competition.
Studios from 16 different communities – including Peterborough, Georgetown, Whitby, Brockville and local favourites Just Dance Northumberland, Jennifer’s Jazz It Up and Colossal Dance Studio – competed in a range of dance styles, from jazz and hip hop to contemporary and musical theatre.
Dance Attack’s Jay T Schramek tells us more.
Dance Attack was created to make professional-level competitions more accessible to families by keeping costs low and hosting events close to home. Since 2014, the competition has grown into a leading event for young Canadian dancers.
Co-owner Kent McCord tells us they’ve been growing the business since 2014.
McCord and Schramek, both seasoned professionals and educators, founded Dance Attack with the goal of offering a high-quality, fun and fair competition experience. Their judging panel is made up of respected dance professionals, ensuring every performance is met with encouragement and expert feedback.
Schramek tells us they provide the chance for local talent to shine.
The weekend wasn’t just about medals. Dancers received adjudicated feedback, and enjoyed a sense of community and celebration.
Dance Attack will continue to tour throughout the season, aiming to bring the same positive energy and professional experience to other Ontario towns.
