Prince Edward County OPP say an e-bike rider who allegedly tried to avoid a RIDE check earlier this week is facing charges.
OPP said on Monday, May 26, 2025, just before midnight, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Bridge Street when they allegedly clocked an e-bike turn in an apparent attempt to avoid the check.
Officers subsequently found and stopped the e-bike in the area, and an approved roadside alcohol screening test was administered resulting in the operator being transported to a nearby detachment for further testing, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 29-year-old with no fixed address was charged with operating while impaired – alcohol, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) driving while under suspension, and having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused will appear in Picton court on June 11 and was reportedly initially held in custody due to outstanding warrants elsewhere in the region.
The individual also had their licence further suspended for another 90 days and the e-bike impounded for seven days, said police.
