The Rushnell Charity Classic has raised more than $38,000 to help furry friends in need at Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward.
“My family and I are overwhelmed by the support we received for the tournament (and) for the animals in need,” said Ashley Rushnell. “This annual event combines a fun day of golfing and dinner while supporting a very important community cause.
“HSHPE does not receive annual funding from any level of government and relies on community support. Its earned revenue from adoptions and service contracts funds the care and adoptions for the animals.”
Marking only its second year, this year’s charity golf tourney raised an extra $12,600 in comparison to last year. The event brought together multiple sponsors, auction donors and 148 golfers at the Trillium Wood Golf Club on June 6.
“We cannot thank the Rushnell family enough for pioneering this tournament/fundraiser for the humane society,” said Greg Sudds, HSHPE board chair. “Ashley and her team of volunteers have done an amazing job at putting this wonderful and fun tournament together.
“We also extend our gratitude to all the sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and the host, Trillium Wood Golf Club.”
Along with plenty of goodwill, the tournament also generated a competitive spirit for the “Rushnell Funeral Homes Charity Classic Cup.”
This year, the cup was presented to the first-place team consisting of Andy Rossit, Curt McLean, Paul Murray and Brandon McLean.
No $20,000 or $10,000 hole-in-one prizes were awarded – but Andrew Babcock with the TaskForce Engineering team won the Las Vegas trip donated by Rushnell Funeral Homes. Casey Hagadorn won the 50/50 draw, and Tim Lake won the Blackstone grill barbecue raffle package. Many golfers also walked away with unique auction items.
In addition to Rushnell, Maple Dale Cheese, McDougall Insurance and Financial, Belmont Long-Term Care, Johnson Plumbing, West City Honda, BST Vacations, James Reevie Real Sports Memorabilia, and Passage Branding, stepped to support the event.
