A 47-year-old Port Hope man is facing a slew of charges after Northumberland OPP say police responded to an intimate partner violence report.
Police said they responded to the call in Port Hope on June 7, 2025, shortly after 1 p.m. The subject of the complaint was then reported to be driving an agricultural vehicle while allegedly impaired, said OPP.
Upon arrival, officers reported observing the individual operating a vehicle and attempted to stop it – however, the accused allegedly fled from police and almost collided with a stationary cruiser.
The individual later stopped at a nearby gas station where they were taken into custody, added OPP.
As a result of the investigation, police said the accused was charged with assault – spousal, dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, failure or refusal to comply with demand, mischief – interfere with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property – take motor vehicle without consent, and failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused will not be named to protect the identity of the victim, said police.
