The Cobourg Police Service Board has reaffirmed its confidence in Chief of Police Paul VandeGraaf following a recent editorial that called for his resignation.
The Board held a special meeting Friday morning in response to a June 12 opinion piece published by Today’s Northumberland. After discussion, the Board unanimously passed a motion expressing full support for Chief VandeGraaf and the leadership of the Cobourg Police Service.
“The Board stands firmly behind the Chief and the members of the Service who continue to uphold their mandate with professionalism and integrity,” the statement read.
Officials pointed to strong results in the Cobourg Police Service’s 2024 Annual Report as the basis for their continued support. Highlights include the seizure of over $331,000 worth of illicit drugs — including cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl — the removal of four illegal firearms, and the coordinated shutdown of multiple drug houses in the community.
Board members say these achievements reflect the Service’s commitment to proactive policing and public safety in Cobourg.
The Cobourg Police Service Board says it remains focused on its mandate under Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act, and stands united in its support for Chief VandeGraaf’s leadership and direction.
