Cobourg police say a Brighton man and Campbellford woman are facing charges after police responded to a shoplifting call.
The Cobourg Police Service said officers responded to a shoplifting in-progress call at an Elgin Street West business on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m.
Officers reported finding two suspects in a neighbouring store, and that investigation allegedly revealed that the individuals had stolen several items from the store and concealed them in a vehicle before police arrived.
As a result of the investigation, police said an 18-year-old Brighton man and 42-year-old Campbellford woman were each arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Both of the accused were released on undertakings with a future court date, reported police.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
