No cause has been determined after a fire at the waste transfer station in Colborne on the afternoon of Thursday, July 10, 2025.
However, Northumberland OPP has said the fire isn’t considered suspicious at this time.
Cramahe and Brighton firefighters worked well into the evening in the scorching heat to put out the fire at the station on Industrial Park Road North.
Firefighters, police, and paramedics responded to the scene Thursday.
Initial reports point to the primary challenge in tackling the fire was that it was debris inside that was burning; however, significant damage hasn’t been reported at this time.
Emergency crews responded to the call for smoke in the area just before 3 p.m. – people driving along Hwy. 401 could also see the smoke billowing north, reducing visibility along the highway.
However, just before 4 p.m., the fire was reportedly “mostly out,” with the debris still “smoldering.”
Police cleared the scene just before 4 p.m., and fire crews a few hours later.
No other details have been released.
