Residents in Quinte West and Brighton will soon have improved access to primary care, thanks to the recruitment of a new family physician through the Docs by the Bay initiative.
Dr. Smita Sauvé has officially signed Medical Services Agreements with both the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton and will begin seeing patients this fall at the Trenton-Brighton Medical Clinics.
Dr. Sauvé holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto and earned her medical degree from the Saint James School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles. She completed her family medicine residency in Milwaukee and most recently practised in Courtice, Ontario.
The clinic will contact individuals directly from its waitlist to fill Dr. Sauvé’s roster, and the public is asked not to call the clinic regarding registration, to help keep lines free for urgent needs.
Dr. Sauvé is the sixth physician to join Docs by the Bay in 2025 and the 24th since the program launched in 2017.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison praised the announcement, calling it an important step toward strengthening local health care. Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander said Sauvé’s addition would help meet the growing needs of the community.
Docs by the Bay is supported by the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, the City of Quinte West, and the Municipality of Brighton.
Residents in need of a family doctor or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect by visiting www.ontario.ca/healthcareconnect or calling 1-800-445-1822.
