From a collision involving a pick-up truck and train, to a car crashing into a house, it was another busy couple of days for Northumberland OPP.
Here’s your latest OPP rundown:
‘SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE’: CAR CRASHES INTO ROSENEATH HOME
On Sunday, July 20, 2025, at about 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a collision on County Road 45 involving a passenger vehicle that had left the roadway and allegedly struck a residence, said OPP.
Paramedics and fire also answered the call. Police said the home sustained significant damage.
The driver was transported to hospital with non-serious injuries at the scene.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 19-year-old Etobicoke woman was charged with careless driving, and class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver.
PICK-UP TRUCK AND TRAIN COLLIDE:
As previously reported, on Monday, July 21, 2025, shortly after 3 p.m., OPP received a report from CN Police about a collision between a pick-up truck and train at a railway crossing on Pentecostal Road in the Township of Hamilton.
Officers reportedly arrived and found the vehicle with significant front-end damage.
Police initially reported non-serious injuries for the pick-up truck driver, but in their latest update they said the driver was uninjured and assessed by paramedics as a precaution at the scene.
The westbound train had come to a stop further down the line and resumed travel once cleared. The north track was temporarily closed but reopened shortly before 4:20 p.m., said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said the pick-up truck driver – a 74-year-old Westbrook man – was charged with disobey railway crossing signal – proceed unsafely.
In the wake of the incident, police are reminding all motorists and pedestrians of the critical importance of obeying railway crossing signals, and that trains can take more than a kilometre to come to a complete stop.
Crashes at railway crossings are often severe or fatal.
Police are urging drivers to stop when signals are activated and to never try and beat a train, to look both ways before crossing – even if signals aren’t active – to never stop on the tracks and ensure there is space to fully cross before proceeding, and to stay alert at all times and avoid distractions such as phones or loud music.
“Your safety is worth the wait,” added police.
ALTERCATION INVOLVING MULTIPLE INDIVIDUALS:
On Sunday, July 20, at about 3:20 a.m., officers responded to a dispute at a Perrytown Road residence in the Municipality of Port Hope.
Upon arrival, police said they determined that a physical altercation allegedly happened involving multiple individuals.
One person was taken into custody at the scene and transported to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
As a result of the investigation, the individual was charged with two counts of assault, and failure to comply with a release order – other than to attend court.
Police said the accused won’t be named to protect the identity of the victim and is set to appear in Cobourg court in August.
PUBLIC INTOXICATION:
On Sunday, July 20, at about 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted person allegedly causing a disturbance at a Shearer Point Road in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 63-year-old Thomasburg man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place.
None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.
