A new family doctor is making the move from Oshawa to serve Brighton and Quinte West.
Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention – the municipal partnership serving Quinte West and Brighton – has announced the recruitment of Dr. Antonia Salhab.
However, officials have not announced specifically where Salhab will be practising out of and/or whether she’ll be attached to a specific clinic.
“I’m looking forward to moving to a smaller community and caring for patients in Quinte West and Brighton,” said Salhab, in a recent Docs by the Bay release.
According to Salhab’s bio in the release, she completed an honours bachelor’s degree of science in psychology and neuroscience at the University of Toronto, earned her medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands, and completed her residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Originally hailing from Toronto, the release states she’s relocating from Oshawa to practise in Quinte West and Brighton but doesn’t provide specifics.
Area leaders say the announcement is a dose of good news for local healthcare.
“Brighton is delighted to see new physicians choosing our area,” said Mayor Brian Ostrander. “We’re grateful to Dr. Salhab for bringing her skills and compassion to local patients.”
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison has also welcomed the announcement.
“On behalf of the City of Quinte West, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Salhab to our community,” said Harrison. “She will be a tremendous asset and will help expand vital access to primary care for our residents.”
Docs by the Bay also extended thanks to Dr. Stephen Evans in its release for helping to recruit Salhab, as well as other local physicians, for their continued dedication to physician recruitment in the region.
No other details have been released.
Residents in need of a family doctor or nurse practitioner need to register with Health Care Connect online or by calling 1-800-445-1822. Docs by the Bay doesn’t keep a waitlist or connect individual patients with doctors.
