The Ontario government is investing $8 million over three years to support economic growth and job creation in First Nations communities across the province. The funding will go to the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA) to provide training, mentorship and professional networking opportunities for economic development officers and Indigenous entrepreneurs.
Minister Greg Rickford says the investment strengthens economic partnerships with First Nations communities while creating good-paying jobs and supporting local business opportunities. OFNEDA Executive Director Peggy Domingue says the funding will help communities build sustainable businesses, develop skills, and share best practices, laying the foundation for long-term economic growth.
The funding is part of Ontario’s broader plan to protect the province, which also includes support for Indigenous financial institutions, expansion of the Indigenous Opportunities Financing Program, and scholarships for First Nations students pursuing careers in resource development.
Since 2009, OFNEDA has assisted communities with strategic planning, training and networking, serving 138 members across more than 79 First Nations communities in Ontario.
