Cobourg police are calling on the public for help with an investigation into a fire involving a fence in the Bay and Green streets area Sunday evening.
On Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, the Cobourg Police Service issued a release saying an investigation into the cause of a fire on Sunday, Sept. 21 is ongoing.
Police said they responded to the Bay Street and Green Street area at about 6:40 p.m. for a report of a fence on fire.
“A bystander was able to extinguish most of the fire with an extinguisher, and the Cobourg Fire Department attended to put out hotspots and ensure the area was safe,” said police, noting there were no injuries reported.
According to police, only the fence and a hedge were damaged.
Investigators said the cause of the fire is currently unknown, and are asking anyone with information, dash-cam footage or CCTV footage, to reach out to police at 905-372-6821.
Alternatively, anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting Crime Stoppers online.
Police are reminding citizens that tips through Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward. People who submit tips through Crime Stoppers also do not have to testify in court.
No other details were released by police.
