Thanksgiving morning got off to a running start in Cobourg as the 14th annual Turkey Trot brought together families, fitness lovers, and community champions for a morning of fun and giving back at YMCA Northumberland.
Participants of all ages took part in the Gobble Wobbles, Wing Dings, and the 2.5/5 km Gobbler run/walk through the Cobourg Conservation Area – turning out in record numbers to support a great cause.
“There’s no better way to kick off Thanksgiving,” said event organizer Rod Simpson. “You get outside, get active, connect with the community, and all before the turkey’s even out of the oven.”
This year’s event raised $11,000 for the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign, which funds programs such as Swim to Survive, Mothers of Newborns, and Back on Track for at-risk youth. The campaign also provides financial assistance to ensure everyone can access the YMCA’s services.
“We’re truly inspired by the enthusiasm of our community and by Rod Simpson for putting on such a great event, year after year,” said Eunice Kirkpatrick, YMCA Northumberland President and CEO. “Every dollar raised helps create more opportunities for people to thrive.”
YMCA Northumberland extends its thanks to participants, volunteers, and sponsors for making this year’s Turkey Trot a resounding success.
