A Cobourg business owner is combining decades of corporate experience with a passion for helping others to support Northumberland residents both financially and personally.
After a 30-year career with H&R Block Canada, Ed Quinlan, president of HQ Enterprise and Senior Helpers of Northumberland, says he wanted to bring his business expertise home to make a difference.
“When I retired from H&R Block, I wanted HQ Enterprise to help small businesses, and Senior Helpers just fit naturally alongside that,” said Quinlan.
HQ Enterprise offers bookkeeping, consulting, and affordable tax preparation for seniors. Quinlan says that commitment to accessibility has already uncovered major benefits for residents.
“We’ve already found over seven hundred thousand dollars in tax savings for people right here in our community,” he said.
Quinlan says many people miss out on important credits like caregiver amounts, disability tax credits, or home care medical deductions – and his team helps navigate those opportunities so more money stays local.
Senior Helpers of Northumberland, meanwhile, focuses on helping older adults remain in their homes safely and comfortably.
“Our focus is helping people age in place and create care plans that make everyday life more meaningful,” Quinlan said.
Since opening, Senior Helpers has grown from three to 17 employees, all hired within Northumberland. The organization also supports community events like the Cobourg Waterfront Festival, reflecting Quinlan’s belief in building relationships over transactions.
Both HQ Enterprise and Senior Helpers share a people-first approach, working to strengthen connections that help residents thrive at home and in business.
