Northumberland residents can now take part in the Royal Canadian Legion’s 2025 National Poppy Campaign, which has officially launched to honor Veterans and support local programs.
Donations to the Poppy Trust Fund help Veterans access emergency funding, benefits, and assistance in their communities.
Biodegradable Poppies are available at local branches in Cobourg, Port Hope, and Brighton, as well as select TD Bank branches and other participating businesses. Residents can also contribute online at Legion.ca or order lapel Poppies for home delivery through Amazon Canada. RBC has expanded tap-to-donate boxes across the region, making it easy for residents to give. Every dollar raised locally remains in Northumberland to directly support Veterans and their families.
Local Remembrance initiatives include ceremonies at cenotaphs across Northumberland, where two minutes of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. on November 11. Legion members are also sharing educational programs in schools to help youth understand the sacrifices of Canadian service members.
Nationwide, virtual Poppy Drops and other initiatives are taking place, with landmarks and public spaces lighting up to mark Remembrance Period. The National War Memorial ceremony in Ottawa will feature a Veterans’ Parade, a CF-18 fly-past, and a Blackhawk helicopter tribute, while commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Northumberland residents are encouraged to visit local Legion branches, participate in ceremonies, and reflect on the sacrifices of the Fallen. Donations and engagement during the campaign help ensure Veterans receive the support they need while keeping the memory of their service alive.
