A 22-year-old Belleville man accused of hitting, biting and throwing a cat against a wall is facing animal cruelty charges, say police.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, the Belleville Police Service issued a release saying the day prior, on Monday, Nov. 3, at about 10:17 a.m., police responded to an animal welfare complaint.
“Upon investigation, police (allegedly) discovered that a male had hit, bitten and thrown a cat against a wall,” said police. “It was also reported that the male had previously bit another animal.”
Further investigation also revealed the accused was bound by a probation order to keep the peace and be on good behaviour, reported police.
Police said animal welfare officers also responded to the call.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old Belleville man was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury, failure to comply with a probation order, and uttering threats.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The cat has been rehomed since the alleged incident, reported police.
No other details were released.
