There should be some relief coming over the next few weeks for residents who’ve been living through months of construction work as part of the multi-million-dollar Prince Edward Street/County Road 64 reconstruction project in Brighton.
“Crews have made really good progress this season,” said Morgan Scott, Brighton’s community engagement officer. “From Harbour Street up to Stephen Street, we’ve installed new water mains, sanitary lines, and storm sewers, and now curbs are going on.
“This week, we’re laying the asphalt base – one of the final steps towards rebuilding the road. We will soon be wrapping up this year’s section and depending on the weather we hope to reopen the road in the next few weeks,” added Scott.
In other words, this phase of the project is nearly complete.
“The top layer of asphalt – the smooth finish that brings the road up to curb height – will be completed next year,” noted Scott. “And over the winter months, we’ll take the time to review how things went and fine-tune our plans for next year as the construction moves forward going north to Main Street.”
Phase 3 of the project next year is supposed to stretch up to Elizabeth Street.
“Thank you to residents and local businesses for your patience and support as we build a safer, smoother road for everyone,” the municipality told residents, in its latest project update.
