Quinte Conservation and the Low Water Response Team have downgraded the Quinte watershed’s low water condition to Level 1. After a summer and early fall of below-normal precipitation, rainfall and snowfall during November and December have helped stabilize streamflow and groundwater recharge across the region. Similar improvements have been observed in adjacent watersheds.
While streamflow remains below normal, it is above the thresholds that trigger summer low water indicators. Reports of dry or depleted private wells have decreased, and water hauling companies are operating less frequently. However, Level 1 conditions indicate potential minor water supply issues, with private wells at greatest risk. Residents are encouraged to reduce non-essential water use by 10 percent.
Current forecasts show additional rain and snow may occur this week. Groundwater recharge could be slowed if a hard freeze happens before further precipitation or snowmelt. The advisory is expected to remain in effect until at least January 29, 2026, or until updated conditions are reported.
