After following up on a report of a heavily-damaged vehicle in the Port Hope Toronto Road carpool lot, police say further investigation allegedly revealed that a Whitby woman was involved in Hwy. 401 crash and fled the scene.
On Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, the Port Hope Police Service said officers responded to the carpool lot area, where the heavily-damaged vehicle was parked. After arriving on scene, police said an impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in an arrest.
Through further investigation and co-ordination with OPP, police said it was determined the vehicle was recently involved in a collision on Hwy. 401 and allegedly hit a pick-up truck and transport before fleeing the scene and travelling at excessive speeds and then collided with a concrete underpass on the highway.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 26-year-old Whitby woman was charged with impaired operation, dangerous operation, failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand, failure to stop after an accident and driving while suspended.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Port Hope police noted that a joint investigation with OPP into the incident is ongoing.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is urged to contact the Port Hope Police Service.
